What to know about Marijuana CBD?

Heard of THC?

Most people who know a little about marijuana will have heard about its principal psychoactive ingredient THC. THC can affect the brain through the central nervous system which will contribute to mood changes, cognition, perception and potentially your behavior. When you smoke marijuana, it is the THC that makes you feel relaxed, heightens your senses or makes you hungry. While in some people, THC may be the cause of anxiety, for many it is used to treat insomnia, depression, and above all pain.

The CBD Cannabinoid

So what is CBD? CBD is a cannabinoid that is considered to be non-psychoactive and is used principally for medicinal purposes. Used in the treatment of alcoholism, diabetes, epilepsy, PTSD, rheumatoid arthritis, and schizophrenia, it has also been known to be used for cardiovascular disease, and as an anti-anxiety or antipsychotic medicine. For diseases that are difficult to treat pharmaceutically like muscle spasms and neuropathic pain, CBD has been employed as a pain killer.

The Cannabinoid attraction

Why are we attracted to cannabinoids? The human brain contains numerous cannabinoid receptors and the human body produces a small amount of natural THC itself. As a result, it is only logical that we are drawn to the marijuana plant. Both THC and CBD have attractive characteristics singularly, but when used together they can offer impressive aid in the treatment of pain precisely because they originate in the same plant and work well combined. Mother Nature is a great doctor! CBD can calm the characteristic anxiety often caused by THC and it can offer relief for certain types of pain than THC doesn't address. CBD also appears to delay the beginning of THC's "high" and prolongs the duration of that high. Initially, after marijuana consumption with CBD, it can seem that there is no high and then suddenly the effect sets in and is prolonged. As a natural medicine, marijuana is slowly but surely coming into its own to the benefit of the many people who need it.
